[Omicron Threat] SCAORA Moves Supreme Court Seeking Relaxation In Limitation Period

The legal fraternity and its stakeholders are taking note of the alarming increase in omicron cases over the past few days. In this connection the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) has once again intervened and made an application in the Supreme Court.

In its application SCAORA has asked for restoring the relaxation with regard to the period of limitation to file cases under all general and special laws in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country.

"Considering the alarming rate at which there is a rise in the mortality rate due to Covid and also the rise in the new cases, it becomes necessary to restore the relaxation with regard to the period of limitation as had been considered earlier by this Hon’ble Court, "the plea filed by Abhinav Ramkrishna says.

It is pertinent to note that the Apex Court had earlier acceded to a similar request made on behalf of SCAORA during the devastating second wave of the Covid 19 pandemic.

As Omicron virus raises its ugly head, the High Courts, Bar associations and other stakeholder bodies are looking to take proactive measures to address the safety of the legal fraternity as well as the public at large.
