In a significant move addressing the growing concerns over carbon emissions and their environmental impact, the SC has appointed Sudhir Mishra, Founder and Managing Partner of Trust Legal Advocates & Consultants, and Jay Cheema, Founder, Chambers of Jay Cheema, both learned counsels, as Amicus Curiae to assist in the examination of the legal regime regulating carbon emissions.

The case, which holds particular importance given the global focus on climate change and sustainability, aims to explore how existing laws are tackling the issue of carbon emissions and whether further actions are necessary.

As part of the proceedings, Swarupama Chaturvedi, a senior advocate representing the Union, has been instructed to compile and submit all relevant rules and regulations concerning carbon emissions within a period of two weeks. This step is expected to shed light on the current legal framework and help the court make an informed decision regarding future actions.
