Lucknow University Copyrights its E-Learning Portal 'SLATE'

Lucknow University develops 'SLATE'

The pandemic has disrupted almost every sector including education. Ever since lockdown, universities and schools shifted their base to virtual platforms to conduct classes online. Many universities innovated and created their own online learning portals. Lucknow University also launched its online portal ‘SLATE’. The platform was developed and introduced to provide a “360-degree online classroom”.

Prof. Alok Kumar Rai backs a hybrid system of education.

Prof. Rai, Vice-chancellor spoke about the future of online education during the online launch of his book, “This is for the first time in the 100 years’ history of LU that a copyright has been registered in the name of the institution,”

He added, “The online mode of teaching emerged as a good option during lockdown but it does not offer a complete solution. The need of the hour is a “hybrid system” – a combination of online and on-campus education.”

The book launch was also attended by Actor Sonu Sood, chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Dr Shitij Kapur (Melbourne University), Sanjay Gupta (country head, Google India), Kath Blackham (CEO, Versa Australia) and Praveer Sinha (MD, Tata Power).

Other universities will have to pay a royalty to use SLATE

The VC was quoted saying,  “LU has decided to go ahead with the hybrid system even after Covid subsides because the content can also be delivered to students in remote areas. Copyright would mean that any institution willing to adopt SLATE can do so by paying royalty to us”
