Seasoned criminal lawyer Shrikant Shivade has passed away. Advocate Shivade was battling with blood cancer since a long time.
Shivade is remembered by his peers as a star defense lawyer, a nationalist with a deep knowledge of Maharashtra Politics.
He has successfully defended cases for Bollywood actors, famous businessmen and renowned celebrities. He famously questioned the competency of the chemical expert in the 2002 hit and run case and denied that the blood sample containing alcohol could be attributed to Salman Khan.
"Rules were violated and hence prosecution has failed to prove that the accused's blood contained alcohol to the tune of 62 mg per 100 ml," Shivade had argued before the sessions judge D W Deshpande back then.
His art of cross examination and trial advocacy was a masterclass for budding criminal lawyers.
From 2G spectrum case to representing business tycoon Peter Mukherjea, Shevade's clients comprised of big names in every sector.
The superstar lawyer is survived by his wife, two children and a mother.
