Former SC judge Justice Ashok Bhushan on Monday took charge as the chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal. It is pertinent to note that the NCLAT has been functioning without a permanent chairperson since March 2020 post the retirement of Justice Mukhopadhaya.
A law graduate from Allahabad University, Justice Bhushan started his law practice at the Allahabad High Court in 1979. He mainly practiced on the Civil and Original side during his illustrious career as a lawyer. Justice Bhushan also worked as Standing Counsel of Allahabad University, State Mineral Development Corporation Ltd., and Several Municipal boards, Banks & Educational Institutions.
His career took a new turn when he was elevated as a permanent judge at Allahabad High Court on April 24, 2001.
In 2014, he was transferred to Kerala High Court. He was soon sworn in as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court on 26 March 2015.
In May 2016, Justice Bhushan was elevated as the Judge of the Supreme Court and served at the apex court for five years before his retirement in 2021.
