Cyberlaws.Net And Pavan Duggal Associates Organise Conference On Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity For 2022

The International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity 2022 was organized from 23rd to 25th November, 2022, (IN VIRTUAL MODE), by Cyberlaws.Net and Pavan Duggal Associates, Advocates, Supreme Court of India.

The Conference of 2022 was supported by Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India and also United Nations’ University for Peace, United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV), apart from other national and international stakeholders.

The objective of the Conference is to look at the intersection of Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity. With the increased adoption of and reliance on technology, new forms of cybercrimes are simultaneously emerging. The theme for the 2022 edition of this one-of-a-kind conference revolved around the understanding that newly emerging technologies cannot be left unregulated and emphasizing that technological advancements are the source for worry and tools to help in the propagation of crimes and offences in cyberspace. 

Speaking at the inaugural session of the conference, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Judge, Supreme Court of India underscored how technology has become a dispensable part of our daily life.  

"Reliance on technology has been growing at an unprecedented pace, The onset of the pandemic, acted, as a catalyst to ensure that even the areas of human functioning that had remained aloof of the Internet's existence have been swept under the technological tsunami. This has opened up several avenues of increased human efficiency, business opportunities, and also regulatory issues", he said.

The senior judge also touched upon the perils that technological adoption has brought and emphasized on remaining alert about the consequences.

"India reports thousands of reported cases of online, banking fraud, OTP fraud, and credit and debit card frauds every year, This does not take into consideration instances of cybercrime that go unreported or even undetected. The impact of these crimes can be very vast in terms of the harm they cause".

"Hacking,  financial crimes, Web jacking, cyberbullying, and ransomware are amongst the several other forms of cybercrimes, that can hold all your data hostage and cause an obscene violation of one's privacy", he added.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Conference Director, Dr Pavan Duggal called Covid 19, the black cloud that changed cyberspace at large. 

"Cyberspace is evolving dramatically and cyber-attacks have become the number one propelling feature of the cyber landscape. Whenever you see its cyber-attacks everywhere, whether it's against individuals, whether it's against organisations or whether it's against the government or international government organizations at large, So, cyber security breaches are. Now, the new normal, the new norm that we have to start living with consequently". 

In view of the global threat, cyber security breaches and cybercrimes bring Dr Duggal, advocated on the growing need for an enabling regulation of cyberspace at an international level. 

About the conference

The Conference 2022 had 55 different sessions with more than 240 speakers over three-day deliberations from different parts of the world discussed and deliberated upon some of the important aspects, issues and challenges concerning cyberspace.

The Conference which has been going on since 2014, has been contributing to the evolving jurisprudence concerning cyberspace.  It seeks to analyse the cutting-edge and emerging trends, issues and aspects pertaining to cyberspace today.

It represents global congregation of thought leaders and international experts on various issues, which are evolving under the broad umbrella of cyberspace.

In the past years, the International Conference on Cyberlaw, Cybercrime & Cybersecurity has been supported by 125+ international and national organizations. These include UNESCO, ITU, and UNU-EGOV in the UN Family, as also by Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications, Europol Cybercrime Centre, Interpol, Internet Society, World Federation of Scientists, International Association of Prosecutors, Global Prosecutors E-Crime Network and Asia Cloud Computing Association.

The International Conference was attended by various international delegates and speakers as also representatives from the national Diaspora representing the stakeholders in the digital ecosystem and alive web. These include representatives from the Central Government & State Governments, various Ministries, Law Enforcement Agencies, Police, Business, Information Technology, Corporate Sector, Academicians, Scholars, Service Providers, International Organizations and distinguished thought leaders.
