Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav Who Was Hearing Delhi Riots Case Transferred

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav has now been transferred. He will now preside over as Special CBI Judge, Rouse Avenue Courts. Yadav was hearing the 2020 Delhi Riots case. Virender Bhatt has been named as his replacement.

Yadav has been critical of the poor investigation done by Delhi police in the 2020 riots.

While hearing a case on 2020 riots accused, Yadav had expressed his displeasure over half baked charge sheets. As per news reports, the police had filed vague charge sheets with a poor contextual picture of the unfortunate rioting in Delhi.  A poorly drawn up charge sheet reflects a poorly drawn up investigation by the police.

A look at the general data on police authorities further gives an indication of Delhi Police's poor record when it comes to filing fool proof charge sheets.

Among the 19 metropolitan cities analyzed in a data presented by NCB, Delhi has has the most dismal charge sheet rate at 16.2 percent.

What it means

Delhi Police files the least number of charge sheets per 100 criminal cases reported in the city. While the data does not directly corelate to Delhi Police's poor investigation, it does in a way reflect the poor attitude and aptitude of the Delhi Police when it comes to filing charge sheets.

A charge sheet ultimately sets the case in motion in the court of law. A poorly drafted one does not help the cause of justice.

This brings the pendulum back to the transfer of Judge Vinod Yadav. During a previous hearing on Delhi Riots case, he had pointed out to Delhi Police's lax approach with drafting charge sheets of those accused in riot cases. The modus operandi of the police included relying on excerpts of speeches made in Jamia. No wonder, the accused were languishing in courts, the judge had noted in his criticism for the police.

While his criticism of the Delhi Police cant be attributed to his transfer to Special CBI Court, Rouse Avenue Courts, news reports in the past are filled with instances of transfer orders handed to those critical of government machineries.
