10 Lawyers Contribute Towards College Fees For Two Girls

The Delhi High Court on Friday witnessed a one of a kind virtual hearing on maintenance. The case on a matrimonial matter was playing out as usual.  Wife needed maintenance for meeting the education expenses of her two daughters and the father expressed his inability to contribute towards the same. [Shalini Bangia v. Neeraj Bangia].

The younger daughter who is a third year law student had already missed out her fifth semester mid term exams due to non payment of tuition fee and was faced with the unfortunate prospect of loosing one academic year. In similar vein, the elder daughter who is pursuing a German language certification course from Delhi, had her academic year at stake as well.

The immediate amount required in this case added up to INR 87,400. 

While the father pulled out saying that he does not readily have the wherewithal to meet the expenses, the lawyers who were logged in to their system and awaiting their turn to argue in their respective cases, saved the day for the mother in the helpless looking situation.

As many as 10 lawyers volunteered to offer the necessary financial support towards meeting the educational expenses of the two daughters. 

While appreciating the noble gesture, judge Nazmi Waziri noted the names of the contributors who were able to swiftly arrange Rs.1,02,100 among themselves. The names are are as under:

Mr. Sanjay K. Jain

Mr Mohit Mathur, Senior Advocate and President, Delhi High Court Bar Association has assured to look into the matter. 

"The court appreciates the assurance. gestures, such as these, continue to reassure society about the nobleness of the legal profession and that the generosity of human goodness is only waiting to be tapped," said the Judge.

The said monies shall be treated as 'Bangia Children’s Education Fund' and shall be expended only towards the education related expenses of the petitioner’s two daughters, so that they can complete their current academic courses.
