Handsome Music LLC Sues eToro for Copyright Infringement Over a YouTube Ad
eToro is a multi-asset trading provider. The company launched an advertisement featuring renowned Hollywood actor, Alec Baldwin. The commercial titled “Too Busy to Trade on Your Own? Discover Copy Trading on eToro" features the actor telling the audience about the trading provider’s application for mobile devices.
As reported by the Finance Magnet, the ad was published “on or around October 29, 2019”. Handsome Music claims that it features the ‘Long Gaze’ musical work in the background whilst the actor is showcasing the app. According to the full-service music provider, the musical work has been used without permission.
The music provider stated in its complaint that it was granted copyright registration for ‘Long Gaze’ on the 26th of November 2019 (registration number SR 865-828), with an effective date of registration from the 17th of March 2020.
The music provider has asked for a preliminary and permanent injunctive relief to restrain and enjoin eToro's continuing infringing conduct.
