Huge relief for Kangana Ranaut

The Bombay High Court on Friday quashed the notice and order issued by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) to demolish Kangana Ranaut bungalow. The order passed by Bombay HC comes as a sigh of relief for the Bollywood actress.

"Nothing but malice in law," says Bombay HC on BMC's demolition order

In her petition, Ms Ranaut had alleged that the action initiated by BMC was a counterblast and consequence of the displeasure of influential persons in power who were displeased by certain causes taken up by the petitioner.

The Bombay High Court echoed a similar view and called the action and demolition order by BMC as malicious.

In September this year, Kangana's Counsel Mr Rizwan Siddique had prayed for INR 2 Crore as damages in lieu of the demolition work already carried out by BMC on Kangana's property.

In her submissions before the court, Ms Kangana had stated that the Corporation demolished 40% of the property along with the valuable movable property of the Bungalow, like chandeliers, sofa and rare arts-works. She had also informed the Court that she had duly complied with applicable norms while renovating her bungalow.

In this regard, the Court has appointed a surveyor/valuer to assess the damages caused to the bungalow.

The court-appointed valuer has been asked to submit a report before it by March 2021 for fixing the amount of compensation payable to Kangana.
