On Wednesday, the Supreme Court stated that it is likely to pass a comprehensive order on the batch of petitions (nine petitions) related to the Pegasus spyware matter next week.
During the hearing of a plea filed by Global Village Foundation Public Charitable Trust challenging the decision of Mamata Banerjee Government to enquire about the Pegasus spyware by a judicial commission, the bench commented by saying that they will pass a comprehensive order next week.
Appearing for the petitioner, Senior Advocate Harish Salve then requested the Apex Court that there should not be any parallel enquiry as the matter is already being considered before the Supreme Court. Subsequently, Senior Advocate, Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi objected to Senior Advocate Salve’s submission. To this, CJI Ramana responded by saying that the present issue is related to the other issues and will have a bearing on it. Hence, “in all fairness, we expect you to wait”.
Nevertheless, the Court added that if an enquiry starts, we will be forced to pass an order now.
As the other petitions are already pending before the Supreme Court, the bench said that they will hear this petition along with the other nine petitions about the Pegasus issue.
