Six Hundred Lawyers Write To CJI, Express Concern Over Threat To Judiciary

Over six hundred lawyers have addressed a representation to the Chief Justice of India expressing their concern over threat to judiciary from political and professional pressure. Senior lawyers like Harish Salve, Manan kumar Mishra, Adish agarwala, Chetan Mittal, Pinky Anand, Hitesh Jain, Ujjwala Pawar, Uday Holla, Swaroopama Chaturvedi are among those who are signatories to the letter.

The letter stated that a vested interest group was trying to pressure the judiciary, influence judicial process and defame the courts on the basis of frivolous logic and stale political agenda.

The letter alleged that the "vested interest group" had "concocted an entire theory of bench fixing" which was an attack on the honour and dignity of the courts.

The letter said that this was not the time for the Supreme Court to maintain dignified silence.

The letter also stated that, "Some elements are trying to influence who the judges are in their cases and spread lies on social media to put pressure on the judge to decide in a particular way."

The letter alleged that the "vested interest group" was making slanderous insinuations against the judges.
