Senior Advocate and BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia has taken legal action by filing a defamation suit at the Delhi High Court to request the removal of content deemed defamatory. This content, which allegedly targeted Bhatia, was posted by multiple YouTube channels and certain individuals following an assault on him last month during a lawyers' strike at the Gautam Budh Nagar District & Sessions Court.
Bench comprising Justice Neena Bansal Krishna responded by issuing notice in the suit and also providing notice on Bhatia's application for interim relief. Notably, no interim relief was granted in favor of Bhatia during this hearing.
The court acknowledged that the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and has scheduled a hearing for April 8 to discuss the potential grant of interim relief.
Represented by Advocates Raghav Awasthi and Mukesh Sharma, Bhatia has initiated this suit against several parties, including specific YouTube channels (such as Article 19 India and The News Launcher) and individuals like Professor Akhil Swami, Rajeev Nigam, and BBI News. Additionally, named defendants include X users like Sandeep Singh, Vijay Yadav, Netaflix, Sunitajadhav, Guruji, Dawood Nadaf, Drkhatra, and Virus Baba I.N.D.I.A Wala.
The suit aims to secure a permanent and mandatory injunction against these defendants for their alleged "abusive and defamatory statements" on YouTube and other platforms. Furthermore, it seeks a directive for Google LLC and X to remove the content in question from their platforms.
