The Supreme Court Bar Association members have signed a resolution to convene a general body meeting of the body to discuss the removal of its President Senior Advocate Adish C Aggarwala. The resolution was signed in view of SCBA President's letter to the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud requesting him to take suo motu cognisance against farmers' protest.
The resolution, which was signed by as many as 150 members of the Association, stated:
"This letter has been issued by the President unilaterally without any consultation with the members of the Executive Committee. The letter written on the Supreme Court Bar Association letterhead gives the incorrect impression that the letter is written on behalf of the Supreme Court Bar Association. We do not agree with the contents of the letter and disassociate ourselves with this letter."
Senior Advocate Aggarwala had written to the Chief Justice of India to take suo motu cognisance of the farmers' protest and to take action against the same.
After the letter was written, 13 of the 21 members of the Executive Committee of the Association joined in to dissociate themselves from the letter and said that there was no consultation prior to writing such a letter to the CJI.
