The Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has condemned the letter written by its President Senior Advocate Adish C Aggarwala to the President of India urging her to stop the implementation of the Electoral Bonds verdict of the Apex Court and invoke Article 143 of the Constitution of India to seek presidential reference.
The Committee has described the letter written by Aggarwala as an overreach and an attempt to undermine the authority of the Supreme Court of India.
The letter came to be written on the letterhead of All India Bar Association, requesting the President of India to seek presidential reference and rehearing of the Electoral Bonds matter in the interest of justice.
He further claimed that Electoral Bonds scheme was meant to allow corporate donors to donate to political parties. The verdict will cause a chilling effect, Aggarwala said.
The SCBA committee has said that it neither subscribes to the views of Aggarwala nor did they authorise the writing of such a letter.
Earlier, President Aggarwala wrote a letter requesting the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud to take suo motu cognisance of the farmer's protest and take action. This has also impelled the SCBA Executive Committee to distance itself from the letter.
