SC Rejects Satyendar Jain's Bail Plea

The Supreme Court of India, on March 18, denied bail to former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain accused in the money laundering case and directed him to surrender himself to jail authorities.

Bench comprising Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mithal heard the special leave petition filed against judgment of the Delhi High Court denying bail to the petitioner-accused.

The accused Satyendar Jain's interim bail on health grounds, granted to him in 2023, has also been cancelled by the Apex Court.

In 2017, the Central Bureau of Investigation accused Jain and others of money laundering amounting to Rs 11.78 crore during 2010-2012 and Rs 4.63 crores during 2015-16, when he held a ministerial position in the Delhi government. The allegations centered on using three companies – Prayas Infosolution, Akinchan Developers, and Mangalayatan Projects – for funneling money.

His bail applications were rejected by both a trial court and the Delhi High Court due to suspicions of influencing evidence and not meeting conditions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. He was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on health grounds in May last year, extended multiple times due to medical reasons.
