SC Asks Two Senior Counsels To Maintain Amicable Atmosphere In Courtroom

Two Senior Counsels in the country, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave and Solicitor General(SG) Tushar Mehta have been asked by the Supreme Court to be more amicable with each other while arguing matters.Justices BR Gavai and JB Pardiwala said this during the hearing of an anti-encroachment demolition drive case.

The Solicitor General remarked that he cannot shout like Dushyant Dave when the latter was mentioning that the encroachment drives have become a regular exercise under the BJP.

Dave said, "Why are you showing that you are not deserving of this office?…At the instance of the BJP, the minority community is being targeted." to which the Court asked him to mellow down.

Senior Advocate Sanjay Hedge also said that such verbal attacks must be kept outside the court.

In July last year, the Supreme Court had queried whether it can pass an omnibus order in a PIL case and prevent the UP Government from acting against illegal constructions.Thid was asked to Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind that challenged the demolition of house which has challenged the recent demolition of houses in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. 

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind had filed the PIL mentioning that the demolition was only for houses that staged protests against Nupur Sharma of the BJP who had made adverse remarks against Prophet Muhammad in a TV debate
