Plea Filled In Bombay High Court for Contempt Proceedings Against Kangana Ranaut

Munnawarali Sayyed files an application in his ongoing case against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut seeking to initiate contempt proceedings against her. In his plea, Mr Sayyed has claimed that the actor has tweeted a video in violation of her undertaking given in court. He contended that during the last hearing, learned counsel appearing on behalf of Ms Kangana Ranaut had assured the Court that she will not comment social media platform as far as the subject matter of the said FIR is concerned.

The complainant has referred to a January 8 video message on Kangana's Twitter timeline wherein the actress had sought support from the nation claiming that she had been continuously harassed and tortured. In that video,  she had questioned the Supreme Court as to whether the current time is akin to the medieval age where women were suppressed and not allowed to voice their opinion,

However, the complaint says that Kangana tweeted in "utter disregard to the dignity, decorum and Order of the High Court which squarely falls within the ambit of Section 2 (b) and (c) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971."Adding that this tweet is a portrayal of her callous and disobedient attitude towards orders of the court.

" The contemptuous intent and motive of tweeting the said police station visit is with the sole and ulterior motive to gather support during her visit to the Police Station," Sayyed has claimed in the petition, he further added.

The present case was registered in Bandra Police station against Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel in November last year wherein the actress and her sister were charged with sedition charges for their alleged objectionable comments on the microblogging website.

In response to the same, the Queen fame actress moved Bombay HC seeking to quash the said FIR

On January 11, 2021, Bombay HC had granted interim relief to Bollywood Actress Kangana Ranaut in the matter.
