Nursery Admissions: Delhi Government Assures of Framing New Guidelines to Adress COVID Situation

On Monday, a Single Judge Bench of Justice Prateek Jalan dismissed a plea to disallow nursery admissions in the upcoming academic year after the AAP government said that it will consider a representation on the issue at the time of framing of guidelines or taking any decision on entry-level admissions. The Court refrained for expressing any opinion on the merits of the plea.

Learned Counsel for the petitioner Rajat Vats contended that online classes don't serve the purpose of nursery education. Acclimatising the child with the school environment is the basic purpose of nursery education, he said. The petitioner also suggested that reopening of the schools could be premature considering that the authorities are yet to frame guidelines in response to the COVID situation.

Consequently, the plea filled was dismissed in view of Delhi government's assurance that the petitioner's viewpoint will be acknowledged by the authorities at the time of framing of guidelines or taking any decision.
