Recently, a Bench of Justices MM Sundresh and S Ananthi has asked Central Government to recognise a representation made by a petitioner to print Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's image on Indian currency because of his great contributions made in the freedom movement of our Country.
However, the Court observed that in the interest of judicial restraint, the Court cannot order the Central government to carry out this measure.
In spite of that the Court acknowledged that the proposal is worth considering, given Bose's unparalleled contributions to the freedom movement of our country.
"We need not say anything on the greatness of Netaji, apart from the contribution made, which starts from his resignation from the coveted post to the creation of Indian National Army. His contribution towards the Indian Freedom movement is unparallel: HC observed.
KK Ramesh, the petitioner appearing in-person sought the picture of Subhas Chandra Bose to be printed on the Indian currency so that the younger generations understand and appreciate his services in securing the independence of India.
The petitioner on 20th January had sent the same representation to the government of India. Further while disposing of the matter, the Bench directed the Central government authorities and the Reserve Bank of India to consider the request made by the petitioner.
