Lawyers' Net Worth Is Their Network: Justice J.R. Midha

The Net Worth of a lawyer is his network, the most important skill is communication and art of listening, said Justice J.R. Midha, Former Judge, Delhi High Court.

While speaking at BW Legal World Future Of Legal Education Summit 2024 he said, "The benchmark of communication skill is that you met someone for the first time and they remember you for their whole life. But we don't teach communication skills in our law schools."

He added, the second most important skill for a lawyer is rational thinking and how to think logically. Further, also develop a questionable mind where you question everything.

While explaining the various skills required to be a good lawyer Justice Midha said, that he has developed a very simple exercise. "I said you don't have to go through that courses. You only have to take up some small- small issues and convince the people in your favour," he said.

"Understanding the fundamentals of law is the next important skill. But fundamental law is different from knowing the law," said Justice Midha.

He added, one needs to go backward, “What was the position when this law was not there?” to understand the scenario.
