Internet Services Temporarily Suspended in Parts of Delhi Considering Public Safety Amid Farmer Protests

From 12 in the afternoon to 12 midnight on January 26,  Internet services were suspended in Ghazipur, Tikri, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi Singhu in Delhi by the Union Home Ministry on account of farmers protests.

This action was taken by the Ministry pursuant to an order passed by Shailendra Vikram Singh, Deputy Secretary, MHA, in the exercise of the powers under Section 7 of Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and Rule 2(1) of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017.

The order states that "in the interest of maintaining public safety and averting public emergency it is necessary and expedient to order the temporary suspension of internet services in the areas of Singhu, Ghazipur, Tikri, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi and their adjoining areas in NCT of Delhi."
