Use of Chinese Apps banned for future legal work
It was usual business in a Delhi District Court until the presiding Additional Sessions Judge noticed that the lawyer for the petitioner has used a popular Chinese App ‘Cam Scanner’ for scanning documents in the case.

In the instant case, the lawyer filed the bail application on behalf of his client online in connection to charges of cruelty and dowry death levelled against the accused individual.
The special NDPS Court disallows use of Chinese Apps for future legal work
The special NDPS Court advised the lawyer for the petitioner to avoid using the said Chinese App for future legal work while issuing notice on the bail application to the concerned IO in this matter.
The Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Chaudhary categorically made the following remarks concerning the said Chinese app in question.
“This is an application for grant of bail as received through mail. The application as filed is scanned with the application CamScanner which has been banned by the Govt of India. The Counsel is advised to avoid the use of a banned application in legal work in future”
The use of such Apps had become rampant during the lockdown so that online submissions can be made with ease and convenience.
District Court’s Advisory in tune with Government’s order to protect public order
The District Court’s advisory comes as no surprise in the wake of the directions issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to ban Chinese Apps over security and privacy concerns. So far, as many as 106 Chinese Apps have been blacklisted in this regard.
The ministry blocked these Apps posed a threat to India’s sovereignty and public order according to Ministry’s directions in this regard.
Notorious Chinese Apps pose a threat to data and security and privacy
Chinese Apps like Tiktok and CamScanner have repeatedly come under scrutiny over data security and privacy red flags.
So, when tensions started brewing between India and China at the Galwan Valley border in Ladakh, the voice for blacklisting Chinese goods and services strengthened further.
Notably, Sonam Wangchuk who is a popular innovator and educationist from Ladakh urged all Indians to stop using Chinese apps, goods, and services in a phased manner through his YouTube video message.
This District Court advisory is in line with the current national sentiment in view of the recent developments between both the countries.
