The Delhi High Court recently requested the University of Delhi to take a sympathetic view in the matter of eviction of a visually impaired assistant professor.
Sharmishthaa Atreja, the visually impaired assistant professor (Department of Philosophy), was served a notice of eviction from her official residence provided by the University of Delhi. She prayed the Court to direct the University to not evict her until an alternate accommodation was provided to her.
Alternate accommodation was suggested to the petitioner's counsel. The Court directed the University to complete all the civil works at the alternate accommodation so that the assistant professor could shift.
Bench comprising Justice Subramonium Prasad further stated that, "Petitioner is permitted to file a representation to the University within a period of 10 days from today and the University is directed to consider the representation. It is expected that looking at the fact that the Petitioner is 100 per cent visually impaired and has been facing difficulties because of her physical disability, the University is requested to take a sympathetic view in this matter."
The Court disposed of the matter in above-mentioned terms.
