After Congress leader Jairam Ramesh tenders apology to Vivek Doval, a Delhi Court closed the criminal defamation case initiated against Jairam Ramesh pertaining to his press conference over The Caravan’s article titled The D Companies.
Defamation proceedings filled after the publication of an article titled The D Companies
Jairam Ramesh appeared before Additional Metropolitan Magistrate, Rouse Avenue, and admitted that he spoke against Vivek Doval in the heat of the moment. He was of the view that he should have verified the allegations apologise for the same, on which Vivek Doval accepted the apologies.
Doval had filed the criminal defamation proceeding against Jairam Ramesh, as well as The Caravan and journalist Kaushal Shroff, after the publication of an article titled The D Companies wherein it was alleged that the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s sons ran a web of companies, including a Cayman Islands hedge fund to round-trip black money during the time of demonetization, even as their father demanded a crackdown on tax havens.
Motive of the article was to run a “malicious campaign” against his family: Vivek Doval
In January 2019, the court had taken cognizance of his defamation complaint wherein Doval claimed that the motive of this article and the press conference was to run a “malicious campaign” against his family. In May 2019 Jairam Ramesh was granted bail.
Although criminal proceedings against Mr Ramesh has been dismissed, cases against The Caravan and journalist Kaushal Shroff will continue.
