Delhi Court Abates Criminal Proceedings Against Moti Lal Vora in National Herald Case

A Delhi Court has abated criminal proceedings against Moti Lal Vor, a Congress leader in the National Herald case

This order was passed by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sachin Gupta, Rouse Avenue Court in view of the demise of the veteran leader in December last year. Senior Advocate RS Cheema and Advocate Tarannum Cheema representing Moti Lal Vor placed his death certificate on record and sought for abatement of proceedings with respect to him.

In view of the death verification report filed before the court, the Court held that:

"Proceedings in the present case qua the accused no.3 Sh. Moti Lal Vora stands abated."

The National Herald case is related to the assignment of an Rs. 90 crore loan advanced by the Congress party to Associated Journals Ltd (AJL) – the owner of the National Herald – to Young Indian for a consideration of Rs. 50 lakh.

Subramanian Swamy, in his private complaint, had accused Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Motilal Vora, Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda, Oscar Fernandes and Gandhi family-controlled – Young Indian of cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of property. The case is at the stage of post-summoning evidence.
