Bombay HC to Hear Plea Seeking Suspension of Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter Account on March 9

On Tuesday, Bombay High Court said it would hear a plea seeking suspension or termination of Kangana Ranaut’s Twitter account on March 9. The application was moved before a division bench of Justices S S Shinde and Manish Pitale seeking urgent hearing on the petition filed in December last year, seeking termination of Ranaut's Twitter account.

The petition was filed by Advocate Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh. In his petition, Deshmukh had claimed that Ranaut's posts on Twitter were spreading hatred among different religious communities, as he quoted several tweets by Kangana in which she reportedly called the farmers who are protesting at Delhi's borders against the three new farm laws "terrorists".

Since last Tuesday, when international pop star Rihanna came out in support of the farmers' unrest on Twitter, Ranaut has been regularly posting on the platform. However, Twitter India deleted two of the tweets by Ranaut last week, citing a breach of the platform’s laws.

The bench said it would be able to hear the plea only on March 9.

On February 5, the police were directed by a magistrate's court in Mumbai to submit a progress report on the investigation ordered by Deshmukh against Ranaut and her sister for posting alleged hateful messages on social media
