Allahabad HC Directs Framing of Dos And Don'ts For Lawyers

During a case hearing in Allahbad HC, the counsel for the applicant addressed the Court while sitting in a car. To this, the single judge bench of Rahul Chaturvedi reminded the lawyers that they are appearing before the Court and not sitting in their drawing rooms or passing leisurely time.

The court also said that there are a certain set of rules and procedures prescribed for addressing the courts and should not be taken lightly.

Due to the current circumstances of the pandemic, learned counsel for the applicant, Sanjay Kumar Mishra and learned counsel for the complainant, Abhinav Singh, were connected virtually to address the Court.

However, the virtual conduct of the counsel for the applicant prompted the court to direct the Registrar General to frame a set of Dos and Donts for lawyers for addressing the courts. The said rules are required to be framed within 48 hours. Besides, a list of Do's and Donts, the rules can prescribe the dress code for lawyers during virtual hearings.

A copy of the approved rules will be circulated to every bar association in the District and noncompliance with the same will have penal consequences.
