In a recent development, the President of India has engaged Amit Tiwari among others as Central Government Standing Counsels (CGSC) to represent before the Delhi High Court and as an Additional Central Government Standing Counsel to represent before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).
The engagements, effective immediately, have been made for a tenure of three years, commencing from the date of the Order F. No. J-11017/26/2023-Judicial (13.03.2024), issued by the Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.
Amit Tiwari is a first-generation lawyer enrolled in 2011 as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi. He practices before the High Court of Delhi and other Courts/Tribunals in Delhi for more than a decade. He was also Senior Panel Counsel for the Union of India in the High Court of Delhi till February 2024. Earlier he was the Standing Counsel for the State of Uttar Pradesh, Principal Bench, National Green Tribunal, from 2017 to 2022.
His core areas of practice include Writ Petitions, Criminal Trials, Criminal Litigation including bails, revisions, appeals, criminal defamation etc. He has also done various trials in matters pertaining to Central Bureau of Investigation defending private clients at the stage of trials as well as on the appellate side.
