Prayag Hospital And Research Centre Approaches NGT In Noise Pollution Case

Prayag Hospital and Research Centre in Noida has recently approached the National Green tribunal ( NGT) with a petition. This is against a community centre which is around 100 metres away from the Hospital and plays loud music during festivals and events, even when the entire zone around the health facility is a “ silent zone”. A silent zone is an area where loud honking is not permitted, except during emergency, where loudspeakers cannot be used between 10 am to 6pm, loud firecrackers cannot be lit in its vicinity and the noise levels must adhere to the standards prescribed in the norms under the Noise Pollution Regulation and Control Rules, 2000 which is 50 decibels(A) Leq in the daytime and 40 decibels(A) Leq during the night .

A bench of NGT’s Judicial Members Arun Tyagi and Afroz Ahmed(Expert) gave a direction for the formation of a special committee to undertake investigations in this regard and find out the solution. The committee shall be composed of representatives of the CEO Noida Authority, DM Gautam Budh Nagar who shall undertake the investigations and provide the remedies after verifying the facts of the matter.

The Hospital had also alleged that besides the sound pollution, there are cars parked randomly around the Community centre that hosts birthday parties and weddings, often blocking way for ambulances during emergencies. The management that takes the bookings for the place have acceded to the directives stating that they had previously requested the organizers to not play loud music at night including DJ nights and have ensured that the police intervenes in case of non-compliance. They also  mentioned that they make the organizers give undertakings for the same. The next hearing has been fixed for 26 May 2023.
