Seminar On Fascism By Bharat Bachao, Delhi HC Allows After Delhi Police Denied Permission To Conduct

The Delhi High Court bench comprising Justice Tushar Rao Gedela on Friday granted Bharat Bachao to conduct a seminar on fascism. The seminar by the name of “Understanding Fascism in Present Indian Context” is to be held on March 11 and March 13 but the permission for the same was earlier denied by the Delhi police just two days before the scheduled date. Resultantly they approached the high court.

The counsel on behalf of the respondent submitted that information about the seminar that is now available in the present petition was not earlier available and that is why the direction of refusal was passed. 

The counsel on behalf of the petitioner submitted that the permission for the event can be given subject to suitable directions or conditions passed by the court. It was also submitted that apart from the 10 keynote speakers who have been mentioned in the petitioner, the other participants are also strictly on invitation basis and therefor the anxiety of the respondents to that extent will be aussaged by providing a list of those persons.

In the light of the aforementioned, the court gave the following directions:

  1. The petitioners are to submit a list of invitees to the seminar to the SHO, I.P. na dplace on his record the number of invitees who are participating in the two day’s seminar.
  2. A list of those persons is also to be submitted who were still travelling at the time of the order being pronounced and would reach Delhi on Saturday.
  3. The petitioner was directed to provide a number of a responsible person of the organisation to enable the police authorities to have a phone contact with respect to the seminar.
  4. The petitioner is to undertake that no untoward incident will take place at the event.
