Oudh Bar Association boycotts two-judge bench of Allahabad HC
On Thursday, the governing council of Awadh Bar Association, High Court of Lucknow called an emergency meeting to boycott court the Court of Justice S.P. Kesarwani and Justice Y.K. Srivastava whenever they sit at the Lucknow Bench.
Controversy over constitution of GST Tribunal
The controversy arose when the two judges of the Allahabad High Court gave their nod to establish the principal Bench of GST Tribunal in Allahabad. Members of the Oudh Bar Association were not happy with this decision and want the Tribunal to be set up in Lucknow instead. They have also pointed out that the decision of the Court is in stark contrast to an earlier verdict passed in Oudh Bar (Association) High Court of Lucknow v. Union of India.
Key outcome from the meeting of members of Oudh Bar Association
The members unanimously decided to file a writ of mandamus for the constitution of GST Bench at Lucknow.
A delegation comprising of Senior Advocates and designated representatives is expected to meet the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh while a separate group of delegates is going to meet the Union Finance Minister to put forth the demand for a principal bench of GST Tribunal in Lucknow. It was also decided to collectively stop 'judicial work' on February 12 to peacefully protest for the same.
