On Friday, The Delhi Police has issued a non-bailable warrant against Mumbai-based lawyer-activists Nikita Jacob in connection with the First Information Report (FIR) registered in relation to the ‘Greta Thunberg toolkit’ case.
The warrant was issued after activist Disha Ravi was arrested by the police from Bengaluru and it was alleged that Nikita held a Zoom meeting with Disha Ravi and the reported author of the toolkit, Mo Dhaliwal.
The toolkit has been the basis for the case registered by the Delhi Police after Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who had tweeted the same when expressing support for the ongoing protests by the farmers. Jacob had allegedly edited documents which were shared as 'toolkit' related to the farmer protests long before it went viral on social media.
The police have said that the "toolkit" was discussed on a purposely created WhatsApp group. It should be noted that 'toolkits' are nothing but documents of MS Word or Google Doc, containing basic details on any issue, tweet recommendations and information on what hashtags to use and who to tag on social media, and are a regular inventory when it comes to organising online protests.
According to the police, because Disha Ravi is a co-founder of the 'Fridays For Future' movement, motivated by Greta Thunberg's environmental protest, she knew the climate activist and took advantage of her to share the protest document on social media.
Disha Ravi was picked up on Saturday evening from her Bengaluru residence and arrested on Saturday night. She was brought before a Delhi court on Sunday afternoon and sent to police custody for five days. Her detentions have been condemned by many political figures, activists and lawyers and have demanded her immediate release.
Jacob's Linkedin profile states that she is a law graduate from the Indian Law Society College at Pune and had practised with several law firms in Mumbai since then.
